I was recently inspired to start writing and illustrating my own poems. Below are some examples.

Castle in the Sky
I wish that I could fly so high
to reach a castle in the sky
however for now I'm bound
to see it in my mind's eye
But that doesn't mean I won't reach it
in fact it's closer now than ever
and for now I should enjoy the ground
until I'm in the sky forever
For it is nice down here on the ground
before I become skybound
So next time you get caught up wish
and wishing wishing more
make sure not to wish your life away
as there is so much around you to adore
For when at last it's time to fly
off to that castle in he sky
and at last leave the ground behind
and finally say goodbye
Make sure you lived and laughed and loved
underneath the sky above
at least that is my advice
because this life won't happen twice

Three Arrows
Three arrows was all it took
to fell the mighty beast
Three arrows in the heart
and the creature was deceased
The monster did not fight
against the man that slayed it
Instead it offered cookies
but they couldn’t save it
And as the creature sat
to accept its time had come
the man set down his bow
and realized what he had done
The man sat down
next to the dying beast
he sat there for awhile
then began to weep
Why didn’t you fight back
as I put your life to an end?
and with its last breaths it spoke
Because I wanted a friend
Then the man stood up
and hugged the creature’s fur
I’m sorry I thought you a beast
You are no monster
Then the man left
and left his bow too
He left his sword and arrows
Another beast he never slew

The Octopus
An octopus had eight legs
and regrew each one at dawn
so he gave some to his friends
to help them get along
But soon more fish found out
about his special talent
so they started to gather
as more of his legs were spent
So day after day
night after night
the octopus gave to the ungrateful fish
who just kept asking
for more and more
until their lives became more lavish
But then one day something odd happened
the octopus had died
the poor creature had been slain
as it couldn't defend itself with its tentacles denied
For a while the sea stopped completely
octopus had become their form of currency
A food, an energy a tool it had been
but now its supplier was no longer living
and quickly the sea spiraled out of control
there were riots and fights as anarchy took its toll
Finally the sea rebuilt
plagued by greed and guilt
but then one day a squid came along
with endless ink no matter how much was spilt

Dragons
If dragons were real I think I'd want two
one that was black and one that was blue
They'd have big teeth and claws that could tear
the skin off your bone and the scalp from your hair
But that's not all they'd also breathe fire
as their wing took them higher and higher
Well... Actually the beasts seem quite scary
maybe I'm better off just taking a fairy

The Moon and the Sun
The moon and the sun filled up the sky
with a bond even closer than money could buy
Yes the moon was the sun, the sun was the moon
the moon and the sun filled the sky.
But then one day the sun flew too high
and the moon left behind began to cry
Yes the moon and the sun, the sun and the moon
the sun left the moon far behind.
No matter how hard the moon ever tried
it couldn't understand why the sun had said goodbye
Yes the moon and the sun, the sun and the moon
the moon did not know why.
But one day the moon said it was leaving
to a place far off from morning or evening
Yes the moon and the sun, the sun and the moon
the moon at last said it was leaving.
And oh how the sun had missed the moon
as it realized it had flown too high too soon
Oh the moon and the sun, the sun and the moon
the sun flew too high too soon.
So in the last moments of the moon's last night
the sun came down and flew with the moon on one last flight
Oh the moon and the sun, the sun and the moon
the sun and the moon took flight.
And they laughed and they danced just like they once had
but after it all the sun felt so sad
The moon and the sun, the sun and the moon
the sun never felt quite as sad.
The sun began to reminisce
it thought of all the times with the moon it had missed
The moon and the sun, the sun and the moon
the sun to itself reminisced.
So finally heard the moon from the sun
"please come back sometimes little one"
Said the sun to the moon, heard the moon from the sun
as the moon's choice to leave could not be undone.
"Of course I'll come back and visit sometimes
and stay with you on the coldest and hottest of nights"
said the moon to the sun, heard the sun from the moon
"this won't be our final goodbye."
So the moon flew away to a far off place
on its own adventure to the depths of outer space
The moon far from the sun, the sun far from the moon
the moon went to a distant place.
But the sun and the moon both loved each other so
and every time the moon returned ten times brighter they would glow
The moon and the sun, the sun and the moon
connected by love no matter how far they go.
